We keep getting spam on the forums. After doing some extensive research, it seems as though our current setup utilizing phpbb3 might not be the best option.

The good part is there is a better alternative – bbpress. Guests will be able to post, there will be tighter integration with the main site, and it’ll be easier for us to maintain and control. The same user name that you use for commenting (I’ll enable accounts for that) you’ll be able to use for the forums. That way you won’t have to fuss over having two accounts, and you should be able to post as a guest.

The bad part is we’d have to start from scratch, which would mean people would have to reregister for the forums. Hey, you might be able to get that user name you’ve always wanted.

The bottom line is, spam SUCKS and I hate that it has to come to this again, but for now we have closed new user registration. 

I’m going to go over the details with John and keep you posted, but if all goes well, we should be up and running with new forums in 2-3 weeks (since I am getting married)
