Video: Part 1 of camera sketch – roughing it out

I know, I know. It’s been a while right?  No videos, no updates etc etc. I’ve had my hands in a few things lately and needless to say, I’v e been SUPER busy. I have some good plans for the site though– a way to simplify things if you will (more on that later, as I don’t want to spoil any surprises).

In the mean time, check out this video on how to rough out a quick page layout. It’s part of a three part series I’ll be putting up over the next little while that will cover roughing out the page, overlaying the sketch with pencil, and finally adding some marker to the sketch page.

    hi! You´re my source of inspiration… im an industrial designer student and i´m following all of your works/ tutorials… and u amaze me!!

    One question… Why do u use Tracing paper so frequently? wich materials should be used on tracing paper? Fineliners? I´ve tryed to use Copic on tracing paper, but the ink seems to be transparent…

    PS. Sorry my BAD english… Im from Portugal. ;)

      I use it because it’s cheap. You have to use darker markers than you are used to to make it work or adjust the saturation and intensity after you scan it in.

      My bad – I’m using a Papermate flair pen or a Pilot fineliner I think.

    How do you “freestyle” the perspective lines and how can I practice this?

      Try visualizing a point off in the distance and drawing a series of lines that appear to converge at that point. This should help.

    Why do many designers speak, and do things that retard scott robertson does? scott is speech has no speech skills, so why, why?

    BTW the folding of the cover is as old as glued pads. so big deal!

      I don’t think Scott’s a retard. His methods are valid IMO. I learned this technique in school a long time ago from my professor who wasn’t Scott.

      As for the idea, that’s true, but I’m not here to dish out new ideas in sketch form, but rather focus on technique. Thanks for visiting though!

    I’m sorry that I’m going to sound repetitive, but your sketches are amazing. I’m studying industrial design in Spain, and as many other people have already told you: you are a great inspiration.
    How did you get such a fluent drawing? I’m very low and I also have some trouble with the point of view (sometimes my drawings seem “deformed”), any tips for me?
