The Power of Perception

As some of you know, I was in the midwestern/eastern United states for a short trip. My wife and I were feeling a bit hungry, so we decided to stop in at a restaurant. Any guesses as to which one? We were VERY surprised as well when we went inside. (Sorry about the quality of the photo. I took it on my iPhone)

perception

McDonald’s!! We couldn’t believe it either. We stopped in for a fruit parfait, but instead were greeted with a new style. If it weren’t for the signature counter where you order your food, you wouldn’t have been able to tell it was a McDonald’s restaurant. Seems like everyone is stepping up their game lately (hello walmart).

The point is, there is power in presentation and perception, and indeed, I learned much from my visit about the power of that principle. So never underestimate the importance of being able to sketch well, or put together a compelling presentation.

Haha, i knew the moment those photos came up! They did their rebranding gig quite a while back in the centre of Glasgow. They actually look pretty swish these days, a far cry from their roots…

Has anyone seen Demolition Man? Where Taco Bell becomes a really top restaurant? It’s gonna happen i tell you!

Yep, their new “upscaled” cafe concept. I believe they’re still in testing phase? Well I command them for progressive thinking on their interior design, but you would not PAY me to eat there, unless it’s an emergency and there’s no other restaurants available. Screw their scarse “healthy” choices, fundamentally they’re still a burger mill that continue to clog up america’s arteries and making sure heart desease is still a #1 killer desease. How sad.

Btw, if you guys haven’t seen “Supersized”, drop everything and rent it – will open your eyes what goes on behind the scenes of fast food business.

I was recently in Zurich and the McD’s was very nice. Computers with internet access. Flat screen TV’s with a live game on and free video game consoles available. Split level place with couches and just plain nice looking.
A few years ago I was in Argentina and Uruguay and the McD’s there were also just as posh.
