Video: Primitive Combinations

Sometimes you need to sketch something more complicated, but where do you start? I put together this video in response to a question from RIckard who emailed me via the questions email address.

“Hi, I am an Induatrial design student who would love to see a tutorial on how to apply marker to more complex shapes like cylinder combo with a sphere or something similar….

Here’s the response -

Updated – erik (a commenter) pointed out a silly oversight on my part. The demo version is correct in certain cases based on material finish, but I’m uploading a new video later today with the corrected method, along with part two of the video series. Thanks erik!

Hey, nice stuff. But one thing. When you drew the sphere and the cylinder separately you made the highlight on the sphere an ellipse, but on the combination of the two you made the hight light “follow a section in the sphere”, a curved line instead of an ellipse. Shouldn’t the hight light be more like this: http://grab.by/17Yt (quick sketch to illustrate, only had a camera to digitalise it with)

By the way, thanks for the work you put into this page. I’m learning loads from you guys
